School Tours and Open House
A Look Inside a Montessori Classroom
Tours are the first step in the enrollment process and are a vital part of researching any school or childcare center. Our tour lasts about an hour and gives you a good overall view of our program. We discuss Maria Montessori and how we implement her philosophy here at BCMS, the history of the school, the day-to-day schedule, and important policies that make our program unique.
We then invite you to walk quietly through our classrooms, observing the children at work. Families new to Montessori are often surprised and delighted at how busy the children are, but also how they seem to go about their activity with care and purpose. Parents are encouraged to note how the students interact with the teachers, the other students, and the material. When the walk-through is complete, parents are invited to ask any questions that may have come up while they were observing the classrooms.
Please note that the initial tour is for parents only. We ask that you save a visit for your little one for a future time.
Jed Burchett, our Head of School, usually leads tours on the 2nd Thursday of every month. Please contact the office to sign up for an open tour as space is limited.
We will hold an evening Open House for interested families in January 2020, and will post here if we plan another. The Open House is not a substitute for daytime classroom observation, but will allow you to visit the classrooms and meet members of our vibrant, nurturing community.
